Sophia McMahon | Adelaide

Innovative and bold yet feminine designs are the hallmark of Autark pieces, created in mind for a woman who is strong, individual, and knows her own mind.

Launched in 2016, Autark was created as a response to both the needs of the modern woman and the wide-ranging impact of the fashion industry on the world.

Head designer and founder of the brand, Sophia, creates garments from the most luxurious of silks, cottons, linens and an array of natural fibres, that are carefully considered in their construction for maximum wearability and versatility. Her designs are reflective not only in their function, juxtaposition of fabrics and minute detail but in the way they are constructed, all locally in her home of Adelaide, Australia. Sophia’s passionate belief in the slow fashion movement ensures that wastage is minimised through the limited and attentive production of pieces, while her convictions ensure that all Autark garments are created ethically and fairly.

“My label’s ethos focuses on three key areas: sustainable and local production, use of natural fibers, and the ideals of the slow fashion movement – investment in high quality, special pieces, that are worn on a regular basis, rather than worn once or twice, then discarded. I strongly believe in these ideals, and while following them has not always been the easiest or most cost effective path, it is important to myself, and my business operation."

Autark’s award-winning designs have shown at the Adelaide Fashion Festival in 2016 & 2017.
